Jenna and Jade’s DIY wedding at Pt Arkwright

Same Sex Wedding Photographer

There's a lot been said about same sex marriage in the news of late, in fact, it's been a pretty hot topic. Let's put the news aside for a moment and grab a cup of tea and read about a good old fashioned love story, featuring Jade and Jenna.

Their story begins, as so many don't, with Jenna not being able to operate the straw dispenser at a club in Brisbane. Jade saw the opportunity and that was that - these two have been inseparable since then!

Jade and Jenna's wedding at Pt Arkwright was a DIY affair that spanned from the Point, down to Mudjimba. Jenna made their arbour, her mum helped with the catering, they decorated the hall together, Jenna made their flowers - totally my favourite kind of wedding when a community gathers around to really celebrate two people! Their dog, Samson, was able to see his mums get ready and popped in for a few photos!

One of my favourite parts of the day was the speeches! I love speeches as I have never heard your embarrassing stories before... both women's sisters shared stories of how much the two had grown together and there wasn't a dry eye in the house - from laughter and all the feels!

It's all fine and dandy to hear me talk about their day, but here is what Jenna and Jade had to say when they received their pics:

"Ahhhhmazzinng!!!
You are a magic worker behind the lens - i have no idea how you managed to make our simple DIY day look like a fairytale"

Man, my job is seriously the best!

Maleny Retreat Elopement – Alison + Joe

Maleny Retreat Elopement

Maleny Retreat is seriously such a gorgeous spot to elope! When Alison first contacted me, she described the two of them as "not really wedding people" and just wanted to be married and celebrate each other without the fuss. Can I just say, these guys totally nailed the brief!

Maleny retreat: Perfect, having the glasshouse mountains as your ceremony backdrop creates this sense of place
Guests: 8. All family!
Reception: A picnic that had to be moved undercover because of the EPIC gale force winds
Dress: Asos!
Ceremony: Roxy Hotten - I have never worked with Roxy before, but boom, we've worked together twice in the same month. She's the real dealio - genuine, calm, funny and creates a really personal ceremony.

All of these things added up to create a relaxed, natural wedding day vibe and helped these guys feel married.

We were also surprised with winds that were so intense that we felt we could almost have been swept up at times. It totally worked in our favour for portraits though, because Alison would have frozen without Joe keeping her warm!

Now, as for photography - Alison and Joe really wanted a few nice photos as the two of them don't really exist in photos together. Which means this is the first time they'd been photographed together and they were awesome. Totally themselves in the cold and it was amazing. We seriously had the best time! Don't just take my word for it, this is what Alison had to say:

"...I am blown away by how perfectly you captured everything. Not only that, but you got along famously with us and our guests, and were constantly giving us the giggles with your great sense of humour. AND at every turn you were helping out with food, or fetching things, making sure everyone had something to eat...I mean is there anything you don't do? 10/10 would stand out in the cold gale-force winds to be photographed by you again!"

So for now, grab a cuppa and see what I mean!

A Brisbane Engagement Session – Caleb and Emilia

Weddings can be seasonal in Queensland, did you know that? So I reached out to some of my couples whose weddings I am photographing in 2018 to see if they would be interested in a Winter engagement session. These guys said yes and drove down to Brisbane to hang out and it is such a great example of what engagement sessions with me are all about at the moment! Lots of laughter, a little smoke, a little adventure and a great day out!

How to make this Gold Coast Wedding Photographer Happy!

Gold Coast Wedding Photographer Gold Coast Wedding Photographer Gold Coast Wedding Photographer Gold Coast Wedding PhotographerGold Coast Wedding Photographer Gold Coast Wedding Photographer Gold Coast Wedding Photographer The way to this little Gold Coast Photographer's little heart is a single word - D-A-N-C-E! I love it when the evening's formalities are out of the way and the dancefloor erupts into bad dance moves, great dance moves and everything in between (and let's be honest, the greatest dance moves are often the worst). I was blessed with two left feet and an inability to move my hips in the way of the young kid's dance moves. Does this stop me? HECK NO. I love moving and grooving in my own special way. So if you reckon your friends and family are going to go wild on the dancefloor, how do you make sure you have enough photography coverage for the crazy hits? Work out when you reckon you're going to cut your cake (if you have one) and are doing your first dance (if you're doing one) and then add about another 45 minutes - an hour of coverage. Easy as that! Also, while we're at it, here are some dancefloor classics that get certain crowds dancing with wild abandon: Darryl Braithwaite - The Horses Toto - Africa Ben Folds Five - Underground Oasis - Wonderwall

An Elegant, Stylish and Love Filled Lightspace Wedding: Elva and Justin

Lightspace Wedding

Lightspace WeddingLightspace Wedding Lightspace WeddingLightspace Wedding lightspace wedding

Elva and Justin's Lightspace Wedding was a photographer's dream. Not because of the decor, but because everyone was so happy for them, there was love in every corner of the room... and the best bit? A rocking dancefloor with beats by DJ Salty Beats who seriously brought the heat.

Elva and Justin have been together for a while - built a life together with their children and their first home. Justin knew that Elva wanted to be married and have that solid commitment made to each other, but the two of them kept putting it of in order to build the next step in their life together. So Elva was fully surprised when he got down on one knee and they met at the top of the aisle for their Lightspace Wedding.

I have so many favourite moments from the day - Justin's mum crying as she read a note from her first official daughter in law, Elva and Justin's son sleeping in a corner whilst the party rocks on and tears as their daughter cried during her reading. They're the moments that make the day. It's always the people!

So grab a cuppa tea and scroll to see the moments and relive Elva and Justin's Lightpsace Wedding x

A Backyard celebration styled shoot

We are big believers that weddings don't have to be super expensive and that the best weddings are about the people, not the stuff. So we did a little styled shoot with a tiny budget to share some ideas of how to keep costs down and still be fabulous! Our model's playsuit is from H+M, hairpiece from kmart and bangles from kmart, lovisa and vintage. Decorations came from leftover yarn, kerbside collection (the rug), pot plants around the house. We did a bouquet course recently, so we bought supermarket flowers and foraged the neighbourhood for greenery... and used ribbons from home. It could be that we're hoarders, but it could also be that the best stuff you have for your day is already at home! Model: Pari Sawale Hair and Make-up - Melody Caitlin Playsuit: H+M
